Location and Directions

Altus Air Force Base is east of Altus. The city is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and State Highway 283. From U.S. Highway 62, turn north on Veterans Drive and follow signs to the main gate.

From State Highway 283, turn east on Falcon Road and follow the signs. The main gate is on Falcon Road. Visitors may be sent to the Visitor Control Center near the main gate for visitor-pass processing.

Visitor Information

The Visitor Center is at 307 B Avenue, Building 428. It is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is closed on weekends and holidays. Community tours may be available through Public Affairs, but requests must be made at least four weeks ahead and require a background check.

Housing and Lodging

Altus Air Force Base has 530 privatized homes managed by Balfour Beatty Communities. Single service members in grades E-1 through E-4 with less than three years of service live in dormitories under applicable base policies. Schools and Childcare

Altus Schools has a high school, junior high, intermediate school, and four elementary schools. One elementary school is on the installation. The School Liaison Office can help military families with school questions at (580) 481-5439.

Medical Services

The clinic is closed on federal holidays and until 1:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month for training. For emergencies, use emergency medical services or the appropriate local hospital. Pregnancy-related emergencies should be directed to the patient’s obstetrics provider or Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Recreation and Amenities
